A 直接話法と間接話法

Paul said to me, “Iʼm in the library now.”(直接話法)
⇒ Paul told me that he was in the library then.(間接話法)

B 話法の転換:伝達する内容が平叙文の場合

Makiko said to me, “I will go to the rock concert tomorrow.”
⇒ Makiko told me that she would go to the rock concert the next day.

Mr. White said, “I bought this book yesterday.”
⇒ Mr. White said that he had bought that book the day before.

The soldier said to Irena, “You should be careful.”
⇒ The soldier told Irena that she should be careful.(p.35 ℓ.12)

C 話法の転換:伝達する内容が疑問文の場合

Kazuo said to me, “Will you be at home tomorrow afternoon?”
⇒ Kazuo asked me ifwhether〕 I would be at home the following afternoon.

Mr. White said to me, “Where does your brother live?”
⇒ Mr. White asked me where my brother lived.

D 話法の転換:伝達する内容が命令文/Let’s ... の場合

Mr. Brown said to us, “Take these chairs to the art room.”
⇒ Mr. Brown told us to take those chairs to the art room.

Kate said to her brother, “Donʼt be noisy.”
⇒ Kate told her brother not to be noisy.

Jane said to me, “Letʼs go cycling next Sunday.”
⇒ Jane suggested to me that we (should) go cycling the following Sunday.

Ms. Yamamoto said to the boys, “Please listen to me.”
⇒ Ms. Yamamoto asked the boys to listen to her.

Andy said to Sarah, “Will you lend me some money?”
⇒ Andy asked Sarah to lend him some money.

E 話法の転換:その他

Mary said, “What a beautiful bird this is!”
⇒ Mary exclaimed what a beautiful bird that was.

Ken said to me, “I will call you when I arrive at the station.”
⇒ Ken told me that he would call me when he arrived at the station.

Mike said, “Iʼm busy now, but I will go to see a movie on Sunday.”
⇒ Mike said (that) he was busy then, but that he would go to see a movie the following Sunday.
